Why 32? Why not a more traditional 25, 50, or even 100?

Great questions, neither of which I can answer.

Let’s get started:

  1. LisaI was born in South Carolina, lived in briefly in Toledo, and then spent the rest of my childhood and teen years in Ferndale, Michigan. You know Eminem’s movie 8 Mile? (Of course you do.) Well, Ferndale is the city due north of Detroit. Yes, 8 Mile really exists. I grew up at 8 1/2 mile.
  2. I spent four years at the University of Michigan. (Go Blue!) I only had football season tickets for one of those years though and I generally left every game at half time.
  3. While my degree is from Michigan, I attained most of my college education from myriad hours spent at The Michigan Daily, the school’s student-run newspaper. Man, were those ever the good old days. We were easily working 80 hours per week, covering things both important and mundane, and having the time of our lives.
  4. While at the Daily we often had guest speakers come in to chat with us about their careers. One of the speakers we had my junior year was legendary journalist Mike Wallace. I had the honor of sitting next to him while he spoke to us over lunch. He quickly finished his lunch and then started eating off of my plate. I guess you could say we shared a meal.
  5. After college I moved to Chicago. I really wanted to move to New York City, but Chicago was cheaper and closer. Here I remain to this day.
  6. I made a rather spur of the moment decision to get a Masters in Public Administration from DePaul University. I’m not sure I’ve used the degree in the intended manner, but it did teach me a great deal about running a non-profit and I’ve been able to apply many of those principles to running a blog.
  7. If I had to guess, I would say that I’ve had macarons in more cities in the United States than 99% of the population. Macaron tasting (and dessert eating in general) is a bit of an obsession.
  8. I’ll never forget the way my 3rd grade teacher taught me how to spell dessert. “Everyone wants a second helping of dessert, and that’s why there are two s’s.” I suppose this isn’t really about me, but maybe you, too, will find this tip useful?
  9. My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, The Sound of Music, and Sweet Home Alabama. I have most of the dialogue to Before Sunset memorized, and I once watched The Sound of Music twice in a row simply because I could.
  10. If I could pick up and move anywhere I would move to Tennessee. It’s a toss-up as to whether I’d move to Knoxville or Nashville; I love both cities equally. While moving to Tennessee would be a big move, if I could I’d make an even bigger move to Queenstown, New Zealand.
  11. My favorite sports team is whatever team my former classmate Tom Brady plays for. We overlapped for a year at Michigan and I’m sure our paths must have crossed at some point.
  12. I’m looking for a phone that will only let me text and read email. I don’t need to receive calls or use any apps.
  13. I’m a card-carrying member of the Mac cult.
  14. As you may have guessed if you’ve seen my blogs, ShopGirlDaily.com and ShopMamaDaily.com, I am really good at bargain shopping.
  15. I stumbled into blogging. I needed a hobby after grad school and started a blog one random weekend in March of 2009 when I didn’t have anything else to do. Here I am today, still going at it, thanks to a combination of hard work and luck.
  16. If I was rich I’d spend my time traveling the world, donating to arts education, and working to revitalize Detroit. Unfortunately for me, the arts, and Detroit I am not rich but I do what I can.
  17. I have two small dogs. Bacon is an anxiety-prone bichon shih-tzu and Ginger is a carefree toy labradoodle. I may be biased, but I think they are the world’s sweetest dogs. (Except when they’re trying to out-bark one another.)
  18. I have a bit of a shoe problem. Let’s just leave it at that.
  19. Though I enjoy browsing Pinterest, I am not particularly creative. I recently started making my own jewelry though, if for no other reason than it forces me to spend some time not staring at my computer.
  20. When it comes to board games, I generally don’t play to win. Everyone around me is far more competitive than I am (namely my husband), so I always feel bad if I win and they get disappointed.
  21. I despise cooking. Truly. There’s nothing I enjoy less. I should add that if I were rich I’d also employ a full-time cook.
  22. I am deathly allergic to cats.
  23. My husband and I went to Australia on our honeymoon and when we were visiting the Great Barrier Reef we spotted Migaloo, an albino whale, and one of the most rare whale-sightings possible.
  24. I’m incredibly impatient. Especially in traffic.
  25. My wedding dress was custom made because I couldn’t stand the thought of trying on gowns. I had a say in every aspect of the dress, down to picking out the fabric and the lace, which was lots of fun.
  26. I am really good at keeping in touch with people, both via email and snail mail. Please don’t call me though, and don’t even think about Facebook messenger.
  27. I gave up coffee and I miss it every. single. day. That said, all bets are off whenever I can find Cuban espresso.
  28. My favorite movies when I was a child were Friendship in Vienna and Troop Beverly Hills. Years later, Jenny Lewis was my favorite singer and Rilo Kiley one of my favorite bands. Imagine my surprise to realize that Jenny Lewis was the star of my two favorite movies. I guess you could call me a life-long Jenny Lewis fan.
  29. One of the best compliments I’ve ever received is when a friend told me I have a lot of tact.
  30. My hair is incredibly curly. For some reason in college I kept it cut pretty short (Felicity season 2 style, actually). Now my hair is really long and on some of my better hair days I think it looks rather Beyoncé-ish.
  31. I have problems letting go of people and still fiercely miss some of the people I’ve lost contact with over the years. I suppose that explains #26.
  32. Tuscany is my happy place. If I could retire there and live la dolce vita, well, that would be the ultimate.
